“Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it for I am the LORD YOUR GOD”- Leviticus 26:1 We all idolize something, and trust me it is not a great idea. I lie it is a BIG BAD IDEA; I am trying to stop myself. Your idols can be in any form, for me, my idols are Reality TV Shows, Solange Knowles, Instagram, the list goes on... It doesn’t have to be a particular person either; you can idolize a concept, or a lifestyle. What I am saying is that idolizing a particular thing of importance to you is great in one way, because it can be a driving force that pushes you to improve yourself (for example a celebrity that inspires you to be great). The only problem here is that we never get to see the full picture, I idolize Solange Knowles, and it was simply a love for her style at first, now I find myself wanting to be like her in every way, which is quite sad. I don’t see what goes on behind closed doors, I just see projected version of her life and a version I have created in mind, which is really dangerous, as you begin to lose who you were created to be. Another form of Idolization, is where females look at other females on social media in relationships or just their general life’s, you begin to idolize their relationships, their lifestyle and when your relationship or lifestyle isn’t the same, it becomes a big problem. I am so guilty of this! Here are my three reasons why you shouldn’t idolize anything: I. It will lead you astray- There are so many people that inspire me to be great, from celebrities to world leaders to church leaders to my friends. You see, I have a variety of people that inspire me and that is the way it should stay, a Variety. I make sure not to single out a particular person that I aspire to be like, this when you start to force yourself to fit within the confines of the character of the person you idolize. Believe me, crazy things start to happen, you lose yourself and you end up forcing yourself down you have no real interest in, blinded by the life that you think your idols lead. II. You start to overlook what is right in your life- so it leads you astray, it is very easy to get hung up on the idea of how things should be, that you start ignore the things that are actually working great for you (Trust your journey). For example, when I see people living beyond their means, because they saw ‘Jennifer’ on instgram with a Chanel and Prada bag, when you barely have enough to feed yourself. Appreciate your life and your growth process, stop looking at others and idolizing their life, wishing your life would be that way. Be careful what you wish for. Your life is great, be grateful. III. It stops you from learning- this has to be the worst; it makes it hard to keep an open mind. This because you only see things through the eyes of your idol, if anyone was to tell you otherwise, it becomes a problem, as it doesn’t align with your idol’s way of life. In my next post, I will talk about how we can all let go of our idolizing ways. Outfit I decided to recreate Solange's look from the Martell 300 event in Paris, I was so in love with her look and I thought it would be fun to go ahead and create my own version. The look is very 1970's, which is one of the season trends now. Solange was wearing a piece for the Stephane Rolland spring collection, while I am wearing a ZARA piece from their spring collection. I had so much fun putting this look together and also the BTS moments with my photographer (My 13 years old baby sister, she is amazing right!)
