Taking risks + making mistakes = greatness
Most failures are not documented in history books, only the successes. But it’s the failures along the way that are steppingstones to success. I feel like my generation is so afraid of failing that we don’t reach our fullest potential and strive for the highest ladder of success, but instead settle for mediocrity. I have decided to share with you my 5 reasons why we should make failure our friend; 1. Life’s Greatest Teacher- I’m sure you’ve heard the term “learn from your mistakes.” But if you never make a mistake, how can you learn? You could choose to play it safe and never be reprimanded for failing, but that is because you will never attempt anything in which you could possibly fail…or succeed. 2. Increases your likelihood to get a job- Today large corporations, like Ernest Young & PWC, are seeking those with a CV's that shows failure and success. It takes humility to admit that you have failed, and it shows perseverance to have survived failure and have grown from it. (This reason is a personal favourite of mine, as I have experienced this first hand and seen the result. As I now work in one of Britain's Top Law Firm.) 3. Step outside your comfort zone- You can be successful by operating inside your area of strength, but also outside of your comfort zone. In order to ACHIEVE SUCCESS, risk is required. 4. Growth- Once you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone and experienced failure, you are not the same as you were before you tried. You now realize your limits and how much you can push yourself. You don’t know how strong you are until you have tried and failed. 5. Finding solutions- Look at Thomas Edison for example who had 1,000 tries before he developed a successful lightbulb. “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” a reporter asked. “I didn’t fail 1,000 times,” Edison responded. “The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” Most problems are not solved on the first try. It takes several steps, or several failures to find a solution. I believe that failure is something necessary for growth and success.
